More on the UltraGen and your Business
The new and currently supplied version of the UltraGen (models A1 and A2) has an ultrasonic frequency of 30 kHz. What are the advantages of a higher frequency?

  1. Completely silent operation.
  2. Minimum pressure required to weld the ribbon.
  3. Optimum weld strength even in cases of low density, very low quality ribbon.
  4. The welding horn is made of high grade titanium alloy. This and the combination of the higher ultrasonic frequency result in the horn remaining cool during operation. In turn, this ensures extended components life and constant and maximum transmission of energy between the generator and the welding unit (99.5 %).
  5. We have not yet increased the price!!! (but will have to shortly, given the titanium costs).

What are the advantages of the UltraGen over machines such as the Branson, REM etc. costing up to $30,000?

  1. From the point of view of weld strength you get ABSOLUTELY the same performance. Typically, a half inch (12.5 mm) ribbon weld breaks anywhere between 8 and 12 Kg, depending on ribbon quality. Specifications call for 4 Kg.
  2. The UltraGen is manually controlled and this means a dramatic reduction in downtime and service costs. Hydraulic or pneumatic components are the weak link in any mechanical system. They require regular maintenance and service. With a minimum of practice an operator can acquire essentially the same speed as that of a hydraulic system. The travel of the horn from its stationary position down onto the ribbon is short. And even the pneumatic unit must travel at moderate speed so as not to hit the ribbon with undue force. Different types of ribbons require slightly different pressures - this requires gage adjustments (and extra time and trial runs). With the UltraGen, instead, the operator acquires immediately a feel for the pressure needed, correction and adjustment are immediate. The pressure needed to weld the ribbon is minimal and comparable to the force necessary to push a button.

What maintenance is required on the UltraGen?

After tens of thousands of welds the ‘knife’ (ribbon is placed between knife and horn) may need sharpening and the horn may need grinding. Both items are easily detachable and can be returned to us for service.

What service problems may occur with the UltraGen?

The UltraGen was designed with the remote Service Office in mind (we have customers all over the world and many in remote and unusual locations). Diagnostics and service can be performed easily at long distance. The diagnostics we provide will determine quickly if a problem is in the generator or the welding unit. If the problem is in the welding unit the cylindrical transducer/and horn constitute one assembly that can be removed from the welding stand and shipped to us for service. Shipping weight is dramatically reduced by keeping the stand on site. If the problem is in the generator the diagnostics will pinpoint the board to be serviced. Boards can be removed and re-installed just as in a portable PC.

How quickly can I recover my investment?

You can safely count on the UltraGen to give you from 5,000 to 10,000 welds per month - hence, if you seek the business you will see that the payback is very prompt. In fact, the UltraGen opens an entire new range of business opportunities even for individuals and small operators. We have a direct interest in your success, as we hope to supply you with your continuing ribbon needs.

What else do I need to start my cartridge ribbon replacement service?

Besides the UltraGen you require the Ribbon Stuffer (PCS-100). The PCS-100 pulls and measures the old ribbon and stuffs the new ribbon into the cartridge shell. After this step the UltraGen will make the final weld. Again, we have designed the PCS-100 for a user that requires speed, simplicity of operation, low maintenance and low cost, The PCS-100 features the same performance of machines more expensive by various orders of magnitude. We can say that, as regards our Industry, the combination UltraGen, PCS-100 are somewhat of a revolution - just as we started a mini-revolution in 1982 when we introduced the first MacInker (automatic ribbon re-inker).
