New Product Release

September 2001

Computer Friends, Inc. - announces the JetMaster EJ6-MCI-777 Inkjet Refill Kit for the until now ‘unrefillable’ Epson 680/777/777i cartridges.

The JetMaster EJ6-MCI-777 is no ordinary Inkjet Refill Kit - it represents an important victory for Epson Stylus Color 680/777/777i users and a milestone in the silent, undeclared war between jet printer manufacturers and users. For manufacturers, victory is an un-refillable cartridge, for the user victory is the opposite.

The Epson Stylus Color 680/777/777i are excellent printers delivering text and graphics of impeccable quality, up to 2880 dpi (dots per inch). However, its low purchase price is immediately offset by the high cartridge costs and it is (was) Epson’s plan to make it impossible to refill the cartridges.

Both the black and the tricolor cartridges have mounted ‘intelligent’ chips. When the ink level drops below a pre-fixed value a signal triggers a software switch in the chip and the cartridge stops printing forever. The user’s only recourse is to dispose of the cartridge(s) and buy new ones.

The JetMaster EJ6-MCI-777 Inkjet Refill Kit makes the original cartridges indefinitely rechargeable. Inks are an accurate chemical mirror of the original Epson Stylus Color 680/777/ 777i inks. What makes the JetMaster EJ6-MCI-777 Inkjet Refill Kit original, novel and unique is the easy and straightforward method to re-set the chip to ‘full’ status, so that both black and color cartridges can print again after refilling.

The JetMaster EJ6-MCI-777 Inkjet Refill Kit includes a floppy disk with self-activating software. At re-fill time, the user simply inserts the self-booting floppy disk into his/her PC drive and the procedure is automatic (no operating system is needed). A sequence of screen messages display the process status until the conclusion - the complete resetting sequence takes about one minute.

In extensive tests conducted on multiple Epson Stylus Color 680/777/ 777i printers, both cartridges have been refilled over 50 times with continued excellent printout quality. The manufacturer specifies the life of the print-head at 16,000 pages (at the industry standard 5% page-area-cover ratio). Tests with the reset, re-filled cartridges have shown that the original print-head lasts for at least 20, 000 pages, hence exceeding by 25% the expected print-head life.

After depleting the original ink supply, included with the JetMaster EJ6-MCI-777 Inkjet Refill Kit, the user can acquire inks in larger containers and capacities.

Here is the savings tally.

  • Printing at 360 dpi with standard quality a new cartridge prints an average of 200 to 250 pages in black and 100 black and color pages.
  • At 720 dpi the yield is half. At 1400 dpi the yield is a quarter and at 2880 dpi the yield is one eight. That is, at the best quality setting, one cartridge set can only print between 20 and 50 pictures.
  • To print 20,000 pages in draft (lowest quality) mode, the average user would spend about $4,000.00 in new cartridges. By using the JetMaster EJ6-MCI-777 Inkjet Refill Kit and buying the additional inks in volume, his cost is 7% or $280.00 or 93% savings.
  • The extended tests on the Epson Stylus Color 680/777/ 777i have shown another enviable characteristic of this printer. It is an indefatigable workhorse. The Epson Stylus Color 680/777/ 777i under test have been printing non stop for 12-14 hours at a time every day with continued excellent print quality.
  • It follows that any business publishing a large volume of color material or literature can do so very economically - yet retaining the option of making quick changes to text and graphics as required. The final cost of a printed, commercial-quality color page, including the prorated cost of printer, inks and jet paper (24 lb grade) becomes 3 cents per page.

Inkjet printers are economical and deliver quick and excellent printout quality. However, the promise of economic printing costs has remained a shadow due to the high cost of cartridges. TheJetMaster EJ6-MCI-777 Inkjet Refill Kit turns the shadow of a promise into the substance of delivery.

The JetMaster EJ6-MCI-777 Inkjet Refill Kit costs $64.95 complete with inks, tools and dispensers and software.

About Computer Friends.
Computer Friends was founded in 1982 and pioneered the technology of printer cartridge recharging, first with the MacInker and InkerKing. Both units were electrically driven cartridge ribbon re-inking machines that slashed the cost of printing to no more than 5 cents per cartridge. In the hey days of dot matrix printing the MacInker was a household name among users.
Computer Friends’ first JetMaster Refill Kit (for jet printers) was introduced in 1990.
